Neurological screening for rural Ávila
Challenge
DETÉN was born with the goal of detecting cognitive decline and other neurological diseases early in the villages of Ávila, where access to specialist assessment is harder. Alzheimer Ávila needed a single tool for all its fieldwork: each participant's record, the cognitive scales, the signed official consent forms and a battery of speech tests. Voice recordings are special-category biometric data and required strong safeguards, and everything had to work between the assessor's computer and a tablet, with an interface that older people find clear.
Implementation
At digizone we built a web application with React and Supabase. The patient record generates each participant's code automatically and digitises the MoCA, Lawton and Brody and Pfeiffer scales with instant scoring and classification. The official annexes fill themselves in on the original PDF: the participant signs on a tablet paired through a six-digit code, and the document is archived so it can no longer be changed. For the Barcelona Test we created a configurator for modules with text, images and voice-over, plus a real-time session across two devices: the assessor leads it and the tablet records every answer as 16-bit WAV.
Result
The result is a platform that supports the Alzheimer Ávila team from a participant's registration to the last voice recording, all within a single tool. Each session keeps the exact version of the test it was run with, the consent forms follow the official format required by the funders, and sensitive data stays in private storage with role-based access. The project now has an organised voice archive, ready for analysis.
