Neighbour parking with built-in payments
Challenge
NeighborPark was born from a simple idea: letting the garage spaces that sit empty in a residential building be booked and paid for by the hour from a phone. Building the catalogue of spaces was the easy part; the hard part was making the service work with trust inside the building. Every resident had to see only the spaces in their own community, without ever knowing who had booked the one next door. On top of that, availability always had to be reliable, even though it depended on other residents' bookings that nobody can see. Without privacy between neighbours and availability people could trust, there was no service to charge for.
Implementation
At digizone we built the whole product: an installable app for residents and a web panel for the administration. Each resident signs up with their building's code and can only access the spaces in their own garage. The app shows which time slots are taken without ever revealing who booked them, and before charging it checks the price and availability again so that two neighbours can never end up with the same space. Payment is made by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and the booking is only confirmed once the charge has gone through.
Result
The result is an end-to-end service in production: residents book and pay in seconds, receive email updates at every step of their booking and download their receipt as a PDF. The administration has its own panel with occupancy, revenue and retention metrics, management of buildings, spaces and users, and export to Excel. And if a space that has just been taken is ever charged, the amount is refunded automatically.
