Unlike traditional methodologies like Waterfall, where each phase must be completed before the next one starts, Agile divides the project into small iterations (sprints) that deliver functional value at the end of each cycle.

Agile principles
The Agile Manifesto, created in 2001, established 4 fundamental values:
- Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
- Working software over comprehensive documentation
- Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
- Responding to change over following a plan
Key Agile frameworks
There are several frameworks that implement Agile principles, including Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming (XP). Scrum is the most popular and divides work into time-boxed sprints, typically 2-4 weeks, with defined roles (Product Owner, Scrum Master, Development Team) and ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Standup, Sprint Review, Retrospective).

Benefits of Agile
- Faster time to market with incremental deliveries
- Greater flexibility to adapt to changing requirements
- Continuous stakeholder feedback throughout the project
- Higher team morale through self-organization and empowerment
- Better risk management through early and frequent delivery
